Acclaimed Australian singer/songwriter and eOne recording artist Nathan Tasker has been named 2011 Artist of the Year by The Rock Across Australia (TRAA), Australia’s official national Christian music charts. Tasker’s “Something Beautiful (Grace)” and “Love Is The Compass” earned the #5 and #6 positions, respectively, on the 2011 TRAA Top 100 Songs chart, making him the most played Christian artist of 2011, and the only artist with two songs in the top 10.
Tasker was previously named TRAA’s Artist of the Year in 2006, the same year his single, “Like You Love Me,” garnered Song of the Year honors. Other recent Artist of the Year honorees have included Newsboys and Brandon Heath.
“I am so grateful to be awarded Artist of the Year for 2011,” Tasker said. “My great friends at Australian Christian radio, and all the listeners, have continually supported my music through the years, and to be able to experience this level of success in my home country is extremely humbling and exciting.”
“Something Beautiful (Grace)” and “Love Is The Compass” are featured on Tasker’s highly acclaimed eOne recording Home. Produced by Charlie Peacock, Jason Ingram, Rusty Varenkamp and Tasker—who co-wrote 10 of the project’s 11 selections—Home released last May and marked the artist’s official stateside debut.
TRAA’s annual airplay accolades recognize the artist or group gaining the most airplay on Australian Christian radio, plus the individual song generating the most airplay. Published by Woodlands Media, TRAA compiles its weekly charts aggregating high rotation activity (derived from playlist reports and airplay monitoring) from more than 20 stations in capital cities and regional markets.
Tasker is currently performing concerts in Australia, before returning to the US later this month to kick-off his 2012 stateside touring schedule.
