International pop star Adam Young, a.k.a. Owl City, releases his newest project, The Midsummer Station, today via Universal Republic amid an outpouring of praise and support from media and fans alike. In addition to debuting at No. 1 on iTunes® in the U.S., Young also boasts another feat today: the Owl City mastermind also mixed the No. 2 album, Dispatch's Circles Around the Sun.
Join Adam Young for an exclusive full album listening party today, August 21st at 4pm EST by clicking here, and follow @itunesmusic and @owlcity on Twitter for an exclusive Twitter interview today, August 21st at 6pm EST.
The album’s lead single at Christian radio, “Shooting Star,” climbed to No. 6 on the CHR chart this week, with 15 out of 18 stations now spinning the song.
Here's just a bit of what critics are already saying about The Midsummer Station...
"Midsummer Station spins the hits and pure pop confection. It's the stuff of teenage abandon that pulls even parents into windows-down, full-blast sing-alongs...the collection is crisp, clean, anti-cynical. Credit that to Young's Christian faith—subtle but foundational to encouragement anthems ("Dreams and Disasters," "Gold"). Like the love it exudes, Midsummer Station always endures, believes and, most of all, hopes." - Christianity Today
"Adam Young branches out from his usual one-man show to enlist the help of co-writers andoutside producers for the first time -- and the gamble pays off. The kids will go crazy for the peppy, Glee-ready track “Good Time,” a duet with Carly Rae Jepsen, but the album overall remains true to the synth-driven, melodic popsound that won Owl City fans in the first place." - Rhapsody
"Collaborations and genre-crossing have produced one of the most distinct Owl City records to date, with a little something for everyone to enjoy. Honest, heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics give us a glimpse at the real Young." - Indie Vision Music
"...There's plenty of assertive songwriting smarts and fist-pumping choruses at every turn." - CCM
"If you wrote off Owl City as a one-hit wonder after 2009's Fireflies, it's time to break out the eraser. Teaming with Carly Rae Jepsen has given the blithe synth-pop act a late-summer earworm in 'Good Time'— a track, by the way, recorded before Jepsen took over the airwaves with 'Call Me Maybe.'" - USA Today

Owl City has announced details of his new full-length studio album The Midsummer Station – due out August 21st on Universal Republic. It was a month ago when we announced news of the new album and gave fans a taste of what to expect with the release the Shooting Star EP on Tuesday, May 15th. Since then, through a series of incredibly successful Twitter interviews where #OCTMS trended worldwide, Owl City revealed the details of the album along with the incredible cover art.
Owl City’s Adam Young took a bold step forward on the new album by choosing to work with co-writers and outside producers for the first time. For example when it came to working on the first single released to Christian radio, “Shooting Star,” he enlisted his friend Matt Thiessen (Relient K), Stargate (Rihanna, Wiz Khalifa) and Robopop (Maroon 5), and on “Gold” – another focus track on the album – he enlisted the team of Josh Crosby, Nate Campany, and Emily Wright (Dr. Luke’s engineer).
“Shooting Star” debuted last week on the Christian CHR chart at No. 29 and bulleted its way up several spots to No. 24 on this week’s chart. The song is available now via iTunes® and other digital retailers.
In addition to working with other writers and producers, Young is joined by two very exciting guests on the new album. On “Dementia,” Young is joined by one of his heroes, blink-182’s Mark Hoppus. The song documents some of the more psychotic thoughts and feelings Young dealt with in the wake of his platinum debut album, Ocean Eyes, and is one of the more rock-inspired cuts on the new album. And on the album’s first single at mainstream radio, the incredibly infectious pop gem “Good Time” (written and produced by Adam Young, with Matthew Thiessen and Brian Lee as co-writers), Young is joined in a duet by “Call Me Maybe” star Carly Rae Jepsen. The song will be available via iTunes® and other digital retailers on June 26; however, a preview of the song is available here: http://soundcloud.com/owlcityofficial/good-time.
When asked about working with Jepsen, Young said, “I love Carly’s song ‘Call Me Maybe.’ I remember hearing it for the first time and immediately became a huge fan of hers – it is absolutely contagious. A bit later, I actually found out that she had known of my music for a while and even went to a couple of shows of mine in Vancouver so I definitely knew I wanted to collaborate with her.”
Their mutual admiration and excitement to work together can be heard on “Good Time” – an undeniable summer anthem.
By embracing the idea of working with others, Young was able to grow as an artist and producer and really explore new aspects of song writing and production. This openness was born out of several positive experiences collaborating with other artists including Paul van Dyk (“Eternity”) and Armin van Buuren (“Youtopia”). The eleven songs on the new album reflect this growth while still retaining Young’s synth-driven melodic pop sensibility.
As Owl City gears up for the release of The Midsummer Station on August 21st, the band will embark on a short North American promo tour, prior to announcing a full World Tour on July 9th. The trek has Owl City playing intimate venues in most stops along the way (many of which are already sold out). Confirmed dates below and for ticket details please visit www.owlcitymusic.com.
Owl City Debuts New Music Video for “Alligator Sky” From Jun. 14 Release
All Things Bright and Beautiful
“Galaxies” Debuts Well at CHR Radio
Nashville, Tenn. May 6, 2011…. Nearly one month from the release of his highly anticipated new album All Things Bright and Beautiful, Owl City is releasing the new galactic mission themed music video for “Alligator Sky.” The music video is debuting on Owl City’s website today, www.owlcitymusic.com.
“Alligator Sky,” features Los Angeles rapper Shawn Chrystopher. “’Alligator’ and ‘sky’ are two words that don’t really go together, but conjure up an image, which fits the idea of the song,” and as Adam Young explains, is not your everyday song title. “It’s about how there are so many weird things coming at you every day. Why not just meet them head on and take charge even though you have no say over what’s going to happen? You and those around you are what matter most.”
All Things Bright And Beautiful will release on June 14, and is the follow-up full-length studio album to Owl City’s platinum-selling debut Ocean Eyes. Released in July 2009, Ocean Eyes was certified platinum in just eight short months and earned Owl City a slew of critical acclaim (New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, etc.). Ocean Eyes’ sales were led by the runaway single “Fireflies” which is currently quadruple platinum in the US. “Fireflies” hit #1 on the Hot 100 twice and found its’ way to the #1 spot in 24 countries around the world.
“Galaxies” debuted in the top 30 at CHR with major players such as Air-1 Network, WONU/Chicago and KXWA/Denver playing the single.
“’Galaxies’ is a first person perspective of the flight commander of the space shuttle Challenger that tragically exploded in 1986,” explains Young. “It was inspired by the idea of a person leaving this life and passing into eternity. It’s a bold statement to Jesus Christ proclaiming that I will personally follow him to whatever end. The song is a vivid portrayal to the idea that amidst such tragedy, victory can in fact be achieved through Christ and Him alone.” To hear more about “Galaxies” from Young, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMaCgmBt4mk.
In support of the new album – All Things Bright And Beautiful – Owl City will be kicking off a headlining tour of the World in North America on June 13th at the historic Ryman Auditorium – confirmed dates below. For the most up-to-date information, please visit www.owlcitymusic.com.

All Things Bright And Beautiful is the follow-up full-length studio album to Owl City’s platinum-selling debut Ocean Eyes. Released in July 2009, Ocean Eyes was certified platinum in just eight short months and earned Owl City a slew of critical acclaim (New York Times, Rolling Stone, People, Entertainment Weekly, USA Today, etc.). About how music and his faith merge, Young says, “Music is something that is fused to who I am. It allows me to breathe deeply, it lets me feel, imagine, aspire and dream in the most beautiful ways imaginable. Music is something that I can't imagine living without, and though it means more to me than the world itself, there is something that weighs significantly heavier on the scale of all things valuable and important in my life, that being my relationship with Jesus Christ.” Continuing he says, “I am an artist, that's what I do. Creating art has been my dream since elementary school, it's the only thing I'm good at and looking back on the years, I am left breathless, completely and utterly bereft of speech at how the Lord has chosen to use music in my life and what I do as Owl City.”
In support of the new album – All Things Bright And Beautiful – Owl City will be kicking off a headlining tour of the World in North America on June 13th at the historic Ryman Auditorium – confirmed dates below. For the most up-to-date information, please visit www.owlcitymusic.com.
