Tooth & Nail Records’ Hyland is set to release their second major release, Finding Our Way, on October 22. On this upcoming release, Hyland has crafted a rich, accessible collection of songs that will speak to anyone longing for a bit of direction on life’s journey. Since the band signed to Tooth & Nail Records two years ago, they have gained a deeper appreciate for the joys and surprises of their own journey.
Produced by Jeff Schneeweis (Number One Gun, The Make), Finding Our Way represents a bit of an ideological shift in Hyland’s approach to making music. It’s always been their goal to write songs born of personal experience, but as they’ve grown in the last year, they’ve become aware that those sorts of songs can become a little self-indulgent.
“On this album, there are still a couple of storytelling songs, songs about my life, and I hope people can relate to them,” shares frontman Jon Lewis. “But there are also songs – and this is a new thought for us – that are about something we know people are going through, topics we want to really attack, to bring some hope to some people.”
Drummer Steve Weigel believes this new approach stems from a long recovery period following the theft of the band’s gear in 2011. “It humbled us as a band, really showing us God’s grace, and how much God was in control. It made us give up, and say, ‘Alright God, we can’t actually do anything. What can You do?’ And then, based on the amount of people that gave to us and supported our ministry, it made us realize how much people were invested in us. It made us see the responsibility that we had to those people, so we wanted to be more focused and intentional about what we were saying. That process made us hone in spiritually and evaluate not just what we want to say as a band, but what we want to say to the people who are listening.”
Hyland is currently touring with Kutless on the “Believer” tour.
One of Tooth & Nail Records’ most promising new signings, Hyland, is set to release their label debut next Tuesday, May 3rd. Their debut, Weights & Measures, will be showcased with multiple hometown release shows next week in Minneapolis, MN. Details for the three shows in the Twin Cities area are below and available at the band’s Facebook.
"We couldn't feel more blessed and excited about the next couple of months: releasing an album in a week, playing hometown shows, and hitting the road with some of the greatest bands we know," shares Steve (drummer) from Hyland. "We have been meeting incredible people with amazing stories and lives at our shows across the country - can't wait to continue this summer! We've put our entire lives into this album. We've given it everything. All we ask is that people give it a chance. We know they'll be able to feel the heart behind our songs and be able to connect and get behind it. Also as festival season nears, it means finally getting some color on our winter-white Minnesota skin!"
