Crunchy guitars -- but not too crunchy -- are just a starting point for this spiritually uplifting alt-rcok band from Minneapolis. Think: Anberlin without 80s vocals.
Fans of Anberlin who don't like 80s rock vocals should/must/better check out Mainstay and their debut record, Well Meaning Fiction. Holy cats! This is probably the best BEC Recordings band in the last two years, especially if you like melodic alt-rock with brilliant songwriting and great vocals. The band gets extra points for spiritual depth on songs like "Down Silver Lake" that talk about Christ teaching us how to hear His song, and the complexity of seeing through the two-way glass of Heaven and Earth on "Mirrors." They also get a big bonus for being a former suburban Minnesota garage punk band, near my own hometown, and plunging headfirst into the Minneapolis local music scene, instead of taking the typical Seattle-by-way-of-Brentwood route.
