Album: Waking Up
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
Bethany Dillion has one of those voices that covers over most any mistake, not that she makes any on her newest album “Waking Up”. Her full voice with light vibrato makes almost any phrase an interesting story I can’t pull myself from. The title track has to be my favorite: a reminder that there is nothing like waking up to God. I love those mornings when I just wake up with a smile thinking about all the possibilities and opportunities I have in store thanks to God’s love and foresight. I wish every day was like that.
Also featured on this complete album are notable piano-driven ballads. “Come Find Me” begins with a complicated riff that revs this song and album past other comparable Christian music. I immediately began to sing along with “Let Your Light Shine,” a sing-able worship anthem carefully written. I predict this is the first of many recordings of this marvelous melody.
Closing out the album, “On Our Side” is a reflective cry recalling the grace extended by our Savior to the weakest and lowest. I find myself in those powerful expressions and am reminded of the debt I owe to the Father of the orphaned, widowed, broken, beaten-down and me.
Do yourself a favor and take a careful listen to Bethany Dillon’s reminders and you will undoubtedly wake up again to God’s love for you. Joe
