Bebo Norman
Christmas from the Realms of Glory
Music sometimes has a way of bypassing our intellect and reaching straight into our hearts; Bebo Norman’s latest endeavor is such a project. With rich arrangements, skillful musicianship, masterful production, and compelling original songs, Bebo brings home a widely appealing album for Christmas this year. If not a Bebo Norman fan already, you will be after one listen to his new album,
Christmas from the Realms of Glory
. This project is both captivating and highly listenable.
From the hauntingly beautiful opening track
Come And Worship
to the contemplative final cut
Mary’s Prayer
, Bebo delivers nothing short of a stellar performance. Presenting new renditions of the timeless Christmas standards
What Child Is This, Go Tell It On The Mountain, Silver Bells, Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas,
and
O Come, O Come Emmanuel
; Bebo makes them uniquely his own while giving respectful nods to their traditional roots. His version of
Joy To The World
is the only exception, which kicks the traces altogether for an Americana-inspired performance.
Adding to this collection is Bebo’s cover of Jackson Browne’s
The Rebel Jesus
, a tasteful remake of the introspective songwriter’s thought-provoking classic. But where this album really shines are in Bebo’s self-penned offerings,
Great Light Of The World
and
Mary’s Prayer
, along with two tracks co-written with producer James Ingram,
Christmas Time Is Here
(featuring Amy Grant) and
Born To Die
, which for me, is the centerpiece of this album with its unforgettable lyrics and equally memorable arrangements, this track pretty much says it all…
And the Angels filled the sky
All of heaven wondered why
Why their King would choose to be
Be a baby born to die
To break the chains
Of guilt and sin
To find us here
To pull us in
So we can join in Heaven’s song
And with one voice around the throne
All the Angels filled the sky
And I can’t help but wonder why
Why this King would choose to be
Be a baby born for me
Be a baby born to die
That’s what Christmas is all about… what life is about.
